What's that on your plate?

Mario Moore

Today, it’s way too easy to not care about the food that we eat. We feed our body whatever we can, get rid of what we don’t need and it responds well to most of the stuff we tell it to do.  Out of habit, we rely on convenient foods like take-out, fast food and boxed dinners.

Eating a lot of these packaged and processed foods will definitely get us from meal to meal just fine. It’ll keep things running but if we could peak under the hood, we might not like what we would see. The issue is that these food-like products aren’t really supporting our bodies as good as we think they are. They can actually be responsible for things like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease; illnesses that our running through our community.

Whether you are motivated to lose weight, build muscle, fight illness or just live a long happy life, shifting your attention to whole, plant based-foods will give your body the tools it needs to reach its potential.

Changing the way you eat might sound like a lot but it is a journey worth exploring. If taking the first step seems overwhelming, check out these four points tips to think about as you start out.

Where do I start?

  1. Make food a priority. Food and how you eat is a major part of your lifestyle. Figure out how to make real food just as important. It may take some trial and error as you figure out what works for you.

  2. Pick 1 thing to change 1st. Trying to change everything at once can be ambitious. Choose one area to focus your attention first and add others once you are comfortable.

  3. Moderation is key. Giving in to cravings and momentary slips-ups are not the end of the world. Forgive yourself and get back on track. It’s all okay in moderation.

  4. Change takes time. New routines and slow results may cause frustration. It’s important to realize that this is a process and it takes some time to re-learn how to eat to live.

Remember, a plant-based diet doesn't mean you have to become a vegetarian over night. But you do have to shift your attention to fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats. Check back regularly as I share more tips and tricks to help you figure out what to put on your plate.

Eat to live. Live to Be.
